Meals Assistance Program

Cancer1Source has partnered with Mom’s Meals to bring healthy meals delivered right to your door. Cancer patients have enough to worry about, meals should not be one of them.

We are here to support you!  During your cancer treatment, nutrition is very important.

If you qualify for this program, you will receive a welcome packet with all the instructions you need to get started. The program provides 14 nutritious, high-quality refrigerated meals delivered to your home. You choose the meals and set up the delivery directly with Mom’s Meals. All meals are fully-prepared, refrigerated meals that are ready to heat, eat and enjoy! 

You could be eligibility if: 

  • You are a Massachusetts Resident
  • You have a household income below 400% of the federal poverty level
  • You are currently receiving cancer treatment

Nutrition is very important and even more so during cancer treatment. 

Nutrition Resources:

Your Nurse and/or Physician: Can provide you with references, advice and most hospitals can provide you with nutrition counseling programs.  Always ask your provider prior to using independent programs or applications to help manage your symptoms.

A social worker/case manager may be able to provide access to nutrition programs and meal assistance services that may help you the purchase of groceries.  

There are Phone Apps that can provide on-line nutritional guidance to help manage symptoms during cancer treatment. Good nutrition can help people with cancer feel better and manage symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, tiredness and decreased appetite.

CancerCare provides information and resources about cancer and nutrition to help people affected by cancer.  

 

Other Meal Programs available to Massachusetts residents:

Magnolia: Eligible patients must live within a predefined area of approximately 25 miles of Andover, MA. If you think you meet the program criteria, please ensure you are within the region by reviewing the towns and zip codes listed below. If a patient lives in a zip code not listed and lives within a 25 mile radius of the area.

 

Community Servings: Provides free meal delivery to cancer patients, family members and caregivers who are homebound due to illness and live in eastern Massachusetts. Community Servings serves every Boston neighborhood, as well as the 19 nearby cities and towns of Braintree, Brockton, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Fitchburg, Lawrence, Leominster, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Quincy, Randolph, Revere, Somerville, Weymouth, Winthrop and Worcester. Also provides nutrition counseling, assessments and education.  Please know that anyone from Massachusetts can participate; however if they do not deliver to your area you may be able to pick up (or have someone pick up for you) directly from Community Servings.

 

Meals on Wheels 

Meals on Wheels operates in virtually every community in America through our network of more than 5,000 independently-run local programs. While the diversity of each program's services and operations may vary based on the needs and resources of their communities, they are all committed to supporting their senior neighbors to live healthier and more nourished lives in their own homes.

 

Massachusetts offers the Meal Program for Seniors:

Massachusetts has 27 meal and nutrition programs that serve over 9.1 million meals to seniors each year. More than 400 congregate meal sites serve meals. Meals are also delivered to elders in their homes.

The programs offers healthy meals, screenings, education, and counseling. Some locations may also provide transportation and recreation. Dinner and weekend meals may be available in some areas as well as special ethnic options. 


People age 60 or older and their spouses are eligible to receive nutrition services. The program helps elders maintain independence so they can continue to live in their homes. For more information click here.
